THIS ONE!!!

This book was given to me by a friend who does not generally like YA/fantasy type genres. I thought this book was amazing. Part X-Men, part mystery, part adventure, part 1 of 3. haha

Jacob grew up with his grandfather’s tall tales of children who could fly, had bees living in their body or had unfounded strength. As Jacob grows older he stops believing in the stories but after his grandfathers grizzly death and mysterious final words, he sets out to find out more about his grandfather’s childhood. This leads him to Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (didn’t see that one coming did you).

Action, murder and a couple of big bads round out this story.

Now what I like most about this story, I found in the author’s notes. It turns out that Ransom Riggs is a collector of old photographs. He’s particularly interested in old pictures of children as he finds them creepy. Throughout the book there are pictures of all the peculiar children(like the cover) and some of the baddies that come after them. These pictures are all real!!! The author built the entire story and characters around real pictures that he had collected over the years. I found that so fascinating and it really made the story come to life for me. It still kind of blows my mind.

I can’t wait to get my hands on the next 2 books!!

  2. Sorry, I need to ask the dreaded question:
    Did you see the movie?
    If so, did the movie live up to the book?

    I have not read the book or seen the movie. Just wondering if I were to do both if I should start with one over the other. Thanks for sharing!

      1. See, in this instance I would argue to watch the movie first. That way you could possibly enjoy the movie and then REALLY love the book. The movie might have sucked because you had such high expectations from the book.

  3. Usually, I would agree with that but my big(est) pet peeve with this book was that they just swapped the love interest character with another one of the characters. No rhyme or reason, the other character is still there just not as central to the storyline. WHY!?!?!?
    So that would have bothered me either way and would probably be more confusing if I read the book second.
