The Word for World is Forest – Ursula K Le Guin

I am about 1/3 through the book and so far it is reminiscent of Planet of the Apes. The universe created by Le Guin is drawing me in. Humans have colonized a planet that was populated with life by a meteor from Earth about a million years ago. This wave of colonists seems to be in our era, and also the planet had been colonized by humanoids several thousand years ago (maybe by Atlanteans?? so far the mystery remains). There are also other humanoid life forms in the galaxy, whom I have not met yet.

The narrative perspective changes between different characters in 3rd person limited perspective. Imagery is great as always with Le Guin Thumbs Up So far!

I thought I had written an introduction, but I guess I never hit publish. My name is Leslie and I live in Kathmandu, Nepal with my wife, Suman. I am a feminist agriculturalist. I recently found out that you can make your own vegetable rennet from artichoke/thistle flowers and also nettles!

  1. Hi Leslie 😀 I passed on your rennet recipe to Brian! I love UKL – I read her book No Time to Waste (I think that’s the title) last year and it was very inspirational– it is a compilation of her essays. What a cool lady.

Happy to see you here- let’s chat soon!

  2. Hello again, Leslie. I enjoy Le Guin’s work, and am looking forward to finding more about the world she’s created in “The Word for World is Forest” (gotta love that title)!

  3. Yes, I have always been drawn to that title. I loved this book when I read it. And Le Guin has inspired me so many times, in so many ways, over so many years. So glad you brought this forward, Leslie.
