I am a huge fan of Jane Austen novels so when I saw this was coming out I knew I simply had to read it! It’s not a retelling exactly and Jane Austen and her novels are frequently talked about throughout the book as Lady Victoria Aston aspires to be strong-willed and witty like some of Austen’s heroines.
The backstories of the characters were well done and does much to explain how they are when we meet them. A lot of work was done to make this novel historically accurate when it comes to much of the plotline. Including things like arranged marriages, divorce, social standings, and gender roles.
If you’re a fan of Jane Austen and enjoy the YA genre, this definitely a book you should pick up! It’s easily become one of my top favorites of this month.

Hey coffee, children & chaos, thank you for this review. Suspect this would have slipped under my radar but I am intrigued by the premise. Some of my favorite reads of the last 20 years have been so-called YA novels so will definitely add this to my list. Welcome!
