These Are the Books We’re Giving Our Friends This Year: MoJo staffers review 20 notable reads from 2016.

Reading this list and only finding one book I had even heard of made me feel overwhelmed, yet again, at how many books I have yet to hear 0f– nevertheless read!

Hope all are well as we move towards the holidays 🙂

  1. Ohhh! More books! I’m almost drowning here in my own ridiculously long list and my completely unrealistic expectations! I do have two from the MJ list on my table right now staring at me, begging me to start reading them: Swing Time and The Underground Railroad. But I have to finish my re-read of Lolita so I can re-read Reading Lolita in Teheran, then there’s Nabokov’s memoir Speak, Memory that should come next, and then I need to go back to my short story reading project and finish Joy Williams’ Visiting Privileges, and then Best American Short Stories from 2006 and 2016 (to figure out what changed in ten years), then back to poetry and W.S. Merwin’s Garden Time….but yesterday I did finish Ann Pachett’s This Is The Story of a Happy Marriage, and I will post a review shortly. I need to keep working on finishing what I start!

And best of luck in your big move! What a great time to be moving west–anytime is good, though.
