This was a very thought provoking essay on hope. Semantics is so important. Many people rely on “active hope” to motivate action. I agree, hope without action is dangerous. Hope is not magic! It’s as perilous as prayer without action. Each of us needs to find out for ourselves what people, ideas, words…motivate us to act–or not act. Rebecca Solnit wrote Hope In the Dark–she is certainly an activist. She has written at least 29 books and counting, and she is hopeful. Lots of intellectual food for thought! Thanks for the post.
