From left to right–
The Throne of the Third Heaven of the Nations Millennium by Denis Johnson is one I heard about from Joseph Massey (a poet who joins us at ModPo once a year). I am excited to check out a new poet.
Next, The Gardens of Emily Dickinson by Judith Farr documents Emily Dickinson’s botany– I had no idea she was a botanist! I discovered this through the Brain Pickings newsletter– if you do not subscribe I suggest you check it out!
Langston Hughes Black Genius I picked up in a used bookstore in San Luis Obispo visiting my brother in the late spring. He is a poet we study in ModPo and while I superficially know ‘who he is’ I look forward to getting better acquainted.
Touching Peace by Thich Nhat Hanh is one I read every few years (I think I read this during the 1st summer challenge? Or another of his books?). Anyhow- brings me back to basics and his writing is easily embedded into the subconscious.
Lastly, my swap from Kate! She gave me Notorius RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsberg which I very much look forward to- it may even be where I start!
What are you reading?
Hard to believe this stack only gets me halfway there– gotta dive in!
Oh! I am adding Notorious RBG to my list for sure— will compare notes when I get there 🙂
Great list- love that we are inspired by ModPo poets and teachers to find some new material!
