Theater of War

Some of us have attended productions hosted by this group. I find it a very powerful way to frame important issues using the arts. Here’s a link to find out more, and, if interested, sign up for this upcoming performance/discussion: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/theater-of-war-for-frontline-medical-providers-msf-tickets-120424692497. Tickets are free.

Theater of War Frontline MSF
October 7, 2020
1pm-3pm (EDT)

This event is hosted by Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and will present scenes from Sophocles’ Philoctetes and Women of Trachis to create a vocabulary for discussing themes such as death/dying, grief, deviation from standards of care, abandonment, helplessness, and complex ethical decisions. We are proud to open this event up to the public, to bring the broader community impacted by COVID-19 and concerned citizens into dialogue with frontline medical providers throughout the world.

Featuring performances by Frances McDormand as Hercules, Marjolaine Goldsmith, Frankie Faison as Philoctetes, and Nyasha Hatendi.

  1. Darn. By the time I made my way in here to explore this, the event was over. But clearly, this is a group worth following. Thanks for bringing my attention to it, Barbara. Were you able to participate in the event yesterday? And do you have anything you can share with us?

    1. I’m so sorry you missed this experience. I’ve been to other Theater of War events. This one was especially moving because it related the performances to COVID and the experiences of health care workers. The people from the audience shared at a deep level as did the panel from Doctors Without Borders. The facilitator of these events is excellent. The audience is international which is also great. Here is an upcoming opportunity to participate (October 14, 2-4 EDT) with an emphasis on the challenges of aging, dementia, and caring for friends and loved ones using scenes from King Lear.
