I really enjoyed this, borkali. And yes, it was such a fine way to open up a Saturday. It struck so many chords for me, touched familiar places – birding, working at sea, William Beebe. And I really love the way the writer zoomed in and out, from deep chasms in the ocean to our island planet, from singular life forms to the intricate web of ecosystems. Just a really fine piece of writing and a fine way to start the day. Thank you. : )

I recently heard a lecture on Creaturely Theology entitled Why Metaphysics Matters for animal and Planetary Liberation by Brianne Donaldson (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-mCe4JkvdI). For me, the lecture was an introduction to this line of theological thinking. Homeslice was a poetic addition to my reflections.
