I was surprised to discover that Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor has written children’s books. Her latest is Just Help. Out of curiosity, I signed up for a live zoom conversation between Justice Sotomayor and America Ferrera about writing the book. The Justice especially impressed me when she responded to three children from the audience who asked questions on screen via zoom–elementary, middle school and high school aged. The kids asked great questions including, “How do you get along with others on the court with whom you almost always disagree?” Her responses were thoughtful, detailed, and very respectful. The Justice is great with kids. I decided to read Just Help. It has a simple message for children–for all of us. Help someone everyday, and notice and be grateful for those who offer help to you. This was the advice her Mom gave her growing up.
