The House in the Cerulean Sea

If you’re looking for something sweet and magical, I highly recommend this book. I just finished the audiobook version and I have to say the narration and voices were superb!

The basic premise is an orphanage of misfit creatures is being evaluated on their well-being. The cast of characters are varied and entertaining in their own ways. One child in particular, a boy named Lucy, is particularly funny and heartwarming. This book reminded me of the cartoon Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends. It addresses a bit of discrimination (the magical children are treated as second class citizens) and there is a sweet queer romance that is underlying strung through.

This book wasn’t part of my witchy magic book club, but I’ve suggested it be added for next year.

  1. Sounds like the medicine we need for sure — on hold at the library! Looks like they got 19 copies (for the county) – wow!
